Photo Diary: Macau 2012

Last september I had to go to Macau for a couple of days and I thought it would be nice to do a little photo diary of what I saw there! The whole town is fairly small, and it is a very unique place in that it has a mixture of Chinese culture, along with Portuguese architecture and food, and then it has all these Vegas style hotels and casinos all around town. All the streets have Portuguese names, that none of the taxi drivers really understand, unless you tell them the Chinese equivalent. It’s an interesting sight.

I’m not gonna say I loved it, because I didn’t. But on my last day there I went for a morning walk around the downtown area, and I did love what I saw there. The architecture reminded me a bit of some places back in Panama, and I enjoyed walking around the “Largo do Senado” which is sort of a pedestrian street filled with small shops, eateries, old buildings and many activities. Honestly, I wouldn’t go again for pleasure, one or two days to go and say you’ve seen it, it’s more than enough.

El pasado septiembre tuve que ir a Macau por un par de días, y pensé que sería bueno compartir un par de fotos sobre lo que vi durante mi estadía! El lugar es relativamente pequeño comparado con otros lugares en China, pero es un lugar bastante especial ya que cuenta con una mezcolanza de cultura China, con comida y arquitectura Portuguesa, junto con un montón de casinos y hoteles hiper lujosos estilo Las Vegas. Todas las calles tienen sus nombres en portugués, pero ningún taxista entiende, al menos que les des el equivalente en Chino del nombre de la calle. Es definitivamente un lugar interesante.

No voy a decir que me encantó, por que la verdad es que no fue así. Pero en mi último día decidí irme a caminar alrededor del centro de la ciudad, y la verdad es que me gusto mucho lo que vi. La arquitectura y el estilo de los edificios me recordaba a muchos lugares en Panama, y me gustó mucho caminar a través del “Largo do Senado”, que es como una calle peatonal llena de pequeñas tiendas, restaurantes y puestos de comida, edificios antiguos y muchas actividades. Honestamente, no volvería a Macau por placer, uno o dos días para ir y decir que lo has visto es más que suficiente.

The famous Chinese egg tarts, are supposed to be even better in Macau. I’ve never really liked them, I feel they’re too eggy, but after some pressure from my friend Kawei, I had to try them at least once! They were definitely better than the ones I’ve tasted in Shanghai or Taiwan, but they are still not my kind of treat. Sorry Kawei! haha

Las famosas tartas de huevo chinas, son supuestamente aún mejor en Macau. A mi nunca me han gustado en realidad, siento que son muy huevudas. Pero después de que mi amiga Kawei me insistió que las probara en Macau, decidi que no podía irme sin hacerlo. Definitivamente son mejores que las que había probado en Shanghai o en Taiwan, pero siguen sin ser mi tipo de postre. haha

I found a small store that sold a lot of awesome candy I hadn’t seen in a while so I had to get some! Here is the treasure!
